Pool Heating

Using solar energy to heat swimming pools is a very simple concept. Using the existing pool pump, the pool water is merely diverted after the filter to an array of solar collectors and then returned to the pool's normal circulation line. Most systems are roof mounted but they can also be mounted on frames on the ground. The size of the system depends on:

the size of the pool
whether the pool gets direct sun
how much sun the roof gets
whether or not a pool blanket is used
what the pool owner wants to accomplish

In the Northeast U.S., between 50% and 75% of the pool surface area is considered standard.
